2.3 Payment Information
Payment processed through Stripe (via Kajabi). We don't store full credit card numbers. Stripe collects:

- Payment history

2.5 Lesson Transcripts
All lessons are automatically transcribed (text only, NOT video/audio recordings):
- Spoken words during lessons (text format)
- Chat messages exchanged during lessons
- Automatically generated by Zoom's transcription service
- Stored indefinitely for safety and liability protection
- Cannot be disabled (especially for students under 13)

2.6 Website Technical Information
We may collect:
- IP address
- Browser type and version
- Device type
- Pages visited and time spent
- Referring website
We use minimal cookies for essential functions only (login sessions, preference storage). We do NOT use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics beyond basic website function.
2.7 What We DON'T Collect
- Social Security Numbers
- Precise geolocation data
- Video or audio recordings of lessons (only text transcripts)
- Social media activity or profiles
- Browsing history outside our website
- Biometric data
3. How We Use Information
We may use your information to:

4. Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for students under 13.

Two-Step Process:
- Registration: Parent checks boxes confirming they're the parent/guardian and consent to data collection
- Payment: Parent provides credit card for paymentÂ
First Lesson Recommendation: We recommend parents be present at the first lesson to help with technology and ensure comfort. This is optional and for your convenience.
4.2 What We Collect from Children Under 13
Only information necessary for lessons:
- Student's first and last name
- Age or date of birth
- Instrument and skill level
- Learning goals
- Lesson transcripts (text only, automatic)
We do NOT collect from children:
- Email addresses (parent's email used)
- Phone numbers (parent's number used)
- Social media information
- Photos or videos beyond live lesson delivery
- Location data beyond mailing address for book shipment
4.3 How We Use Children's Information
Solely to provide music lessons:
- Deliver instruction
- Track progress
- Provide transcripts for practice support
- Ensure safety through transcript monitoring
We do NOT:
- Market or advertise to children
- Share children's information for third-party marketing
- Use children's information for any purpose beyond lesson delivery
4.4 Lesson Transcripts for Children
All lessons with students under 13 are automatically transcribed:
- Text-only transcripts (NOT video or audio recordings)
- Stored indefinitely for safety and liability protection
- Cannot be opted out (child safety measure)
- Protects both students and teachers
Why we can't disable transcription:
- Documents interactions for child safety
- Protects against inappropriate conduct
- Provides evidence for dispute resolution
- Required for quality assurance with minors
4.5 Parental Rights Under COPPA
Parents can:
- Review their child's personal information
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete their child's information (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Refuse further collection and close the account
- Receive notification of what information we collect and how we use it

4.6 When Children Turn 13
COPPA no longer applies when a child turns 13, but our privacy practices remain the same until they turn 18. Parental control over the account continues until the student is 18.

All service providers are contractually required to protect your information and use it only for specified purposes.
5.2 Teachers (Independent Contractors)
We share necessary information with your assigned teacher:
- Student name, age, instrument, skill level
- Contact information (parent email/phone)
- Musical goals and preferences
- Lesson transcripts
Teachers sign confidentiality agreements and may not use information for purposes outside teaching your student.
5.3 Other Students (Recitals Only)
During optional online recitals, we may share:
- Student's first name with other recital participants
- Recital performance recordings via private link (only to recital participants)
5.4 Business Transfers
If Maestro Music is sold or merged, your information may be transferred to the new owner. You'll be notified and can choose to delete your information before the transfer.
5.5 Legal Requirements
We may share information when required by law:
- Court orders or subpoenas
- Legal proceedings
- Protecting safety or preventing harm
- Enforcing our Terms and Conditions
5.6 With Your Consent
We may share information for other purposes with your explicit written consent.

6. International Students and Data Transfers
Our Business:

Our Teachers:
- All are U.S. citizens or residents
- Some may be located internationally but are still U.S. persons
International Students:
- We have a small number of international students (Canada, Italy, South Africa)
- We don't actively target international markets
- By using our services from outside the U.S., you consent to data transfer to and storage in the United States
For EU/UK Students: If you're in the European Union or United Kingdom, you have rights under GDPR including access, correction, deletion, data portability, and restriction of processing. Email [email protected] to exercise these rights.
7. Data Security
How We Protect Your Information:

Important: No system is 100% secure. While we use industry-standard measures, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

- Log out on shared devices
- Keep your contact information current
Data Breach Notification: If a breach affects your information, we'll notify you within 72 hours with details and guidance.
8. Data Retention
While You're Active: All information is kept and accessible as needed for lessons and customer service.
After You Cancel:
We retain different types of information for different periods based on business, legal, and safety needs:
Information We Delete Quickly:
- Shipping addresses: Retained for customer service purposes; you can request deletion anytime
- Active session data: Immediately upon account closure
Information We Retain Temporarily:
- Teacher notes and student progress records: Retained for educational and quality purposes; you can request deletion anytime
- Marketing email subscriptions: Until you unsubscribe
Information We Retain Long-Term:
- Lesson transcripts: Retained indefinitely for safety and liability protection
- Account information (name, email, enrollment dates): 7 years for tax and legal compliance
- Payment records (transaction amounts and dates, but not full credit card numbers): Retained indefinitely for financial recordkeeping, dispute resolution, and business operations
- Charter school/ESA documentation: 7 years per educational funding requirements
Why We Retain Information:
- Legal and regulatory compliance (tax laws, educational funding requirements, etc.)
- Fraud prevention and dispute resolution
- Protecting our legal rights and defending against claims
- Safety documentation and liability protection
- Facilitating re-enrollment if you return
Your Right to Request Deletion: You may request deletion of your information at any time by emailing [email protected] with subject line "Deletion Request." We will:
- Acknowledge your request within 48 hours
- Complete deletion within 30 days
- Delete information where legally permissible
- Explain any information we must retain for legal, tax, or safety reasons
- Provide confirmation once deletion is complete
Important: Some information cannot be deleted due to legal requirements, such as:
- Tax records (IRS requires 7 years retention)
- Records subject to legal hold or litigation
- Information necessary for fraud prevention or legal claims
- Charter school/ESA funding documentation (7 years required)
Information retained for legal compliance will be securely stored with restricted access and not used for any other purpose.

Some teachers may use third-party tools (practice apps, sheet music sites, etc.). These are not part of Maestro Music services—review their privacy policies before use.
