2. Scheduling

2.1 Initial Scheduling

After your trial, you'll work directly with your teacher to find times that work. Some teachers prefer consistent weekly slots (same day/time each week), while others can accommodate variable scheduling depending on their availability and teaching style. If you have specific scheduling requests, reach out and we’ll match you with a teacher whose scheduling approach best fits your needs.

2.2 Changing Your Schedule

To change your recurring time:

  • Email your teacher directly to discuss availability
  • If your teacher can't accommodate your new needs, email [email protected] to discuss switching teachers

To request a teacher change anytime:

  • Email [email protected]
  • Common reasons: schedule conflicts, need for different scheduling flexibility, teaching style preference, or personality fit
  • No penalty for requesting a change

3. Absences and Makeups

We ask for as much notice as possible when you need to cancel or reschedule. Your teacher will work with you to find a makeup time when they can.

Repeated no-shows or last-minute cancellations without communication may result in forfeited lessons. We reserve the right to review or terminate accounts in cases of ongoing attendance issues.

4. Extended Absences

For absences of 3+ weeks:

  • Email [email protected] with dates, reason, and whether you plan to return
  • With 30 days advance notice: We may prorate tuition and try to hold your time slot
  • Without advance notice: Full tuition typically applies, but we'll still work with you
  • Common reasons: vacations, medical situations, temporary schedule changes, summer breaks

Pausing vs. Canceling:

  • Pause: Temporarily stop lessons/billing, we'll try to hold your spot (not guaranteed)
  • Cancel: Permanently end lessons, time slot released

5. Teacher Absences

When your teacher cancels:

  • At least 24 hours notice when possible
  • Choose: Reschedule for same/following week, credit to next month, or substitute teacher

If teacher unavailable 2+ weeks:

  • We’ll issue a prorated refund, OR substitute teacher, OR makeup when they return (your choice)

If your teacher leaves Maestro Music:

  • 2-4 weeks notice when possible
  • We'll match you with new teacher and ensure smooth transition
  • You may try the new teacher, request different teacher, or cancel

6. Lesson Expectations

6.1 Student Preparation

To get the most from lessons:

  • Practice regularly (even 10-15 minutes daily helps)
  • Instrument in good working condition
  • Materials organized and accessible
  • Arrive on time and ready

We understand: Some weeks are busier. Progress isn't linear. Practice habits vary.

6.2 Technical Requirements

Required:

  • Reliable internet (10+ Mbps recommended)
  • Device with camera/microphone
  • Zoom app installed
  • Quiet space with good lighting
  • Tuned instrument

Recommended: Headphones, external microphone, device stand, good lighting

6.3 Parent Involvement

  • For younger students, we recommend a parent be nearby, especially during early lessons. As students get comfortable with their teacher, most families gradually step back. Parents are always welcome to sit in on any lesson.

6.4 Practice Recommendations

  • Beginners: 10-15 min daily, 5-6 days/week
  • Intermediate: 20-30 min daily, 5-6 days/week
  • Advanced: 30-60+ min daily, 6-7 days/week

Your teacher will set realistic goals for your situation.

7. Curriculum and Materials

7.1 Teaching Approach

Lessons tailored to your student's goals, learning style, and progress. Teachers use proven methods and incorporate student interests when possible.

7.2 Books and Materials

$30 Annual Allowance:

  • Covers most beginner/early intermediate method books
  • Teacher selects appropriate books
  • Shipped to your address
  • You keep books even if you discontinue

Beyond $30: You're responsible for additional materials. Teachers may provide supplementary PDFs at no charge.

Popular methods: Faber Piano Adventures, Alfred's, Hal Leonard Guitar Method, Vaccai, etc.

7.3 Progress

Goals discussed during trial or first lesson. Teachers provide regular feedback. Parents can request updates anytime. Progress depends on practice, aptitude, instrument quality, and motivation - we can't guarantee specific timelines.

8. Recitals (Optional)

Online recitals 1-3 times per year:

  • Completely optional, no pressure to participate
  • Students perform 1-2 prepared pieces via Zoom
  • Recorded and shared via private link with participants
  • Supportive, encouraging environment

We may also offer group challenges, holiday performances, or collaborative projects. All optional.

9. Communication

For scheduling and lesson questions: Email your teacher directly (most respond within 24 hours)

For billing, technical, admin, or teacher changes: Email [email protected] (respond within 24 business hours)

For urgent issues: Email both, include "URGENT" in subject line

We encourage: Questions anytime, progress update requests, sharing relevant info about your student, communication about practice challenges

10. Billing and Payments

10.1 How It Works

Automatic monthly billing on your enrollment date via Stripe (major credit/debit cards). Email receipt sent after payment.

10.2 Failed Payments

You'll receive immediate notification. We provide a grace period and lessons may continue while we work with you. After ~2 weeks of non-payment, we may need to pause lessons. We may assess late fees case-by-case for significantly overdue accounts. Suspended accounts may lose time slots.

Our philosophy: We want to keep students in lessons. Communicate with us about payment difficulties so we can find solutions together.

To update payment: Log into your account or email [email protected] for a secure link.

10.3 Refunds

See Terms and Conditions, Section 5.3 for complete policy.

Summary:

  • Available: Teacher unavailable 2+ weeks, verified emergencies with notice, extended planned absences with advance notice, billing errors
  • Generally not available: No-shows or cancellations with under 24 hours notice, tech issues on your end, dissatisfaction due to lack of practice
  • Exceptions: May consider extenuating circumstances case-by-case

Email [email protected] to request refund with details.

11. Policy Changes

We may update these policies as needed. Material changes: 30 days email notice. Non-material changes: posted immediately. You may cancel within 30 days of material changes if you disagree.

12. Questions and Feedback

Email [email protected] with questions (respond within 24 business hours) or feedback about how we can improve.
