 Madison Stepherson
Ph.D. Music Theory
Madison has played clarinet since elementary school, performing in orchestras, jazz ensembles, and chamber groups. Her Ph.D. in music theory and graduate training in the anatomy of breath and voice give her a detailed understanding of how air, embouchure, and body mechanics come together to produce a great clarinet tone. She connects the dots between singing and playing in ways that help students develop faster.
What Clarinet Lessons Cover
Breath & Embouchure
How to breathe properly, shape the embouchure, and produce a clear, resonant tone. Madison's background in vocal anatomy means she can explain what's happening physically when something isn't clicking.
Reed Selection & Instrument Care
Choosing the right reed, maintaining the instrument, and understanding how these practical details affect sound quality. These are the kinds of things beginners often struggle with on their own, and having a teacher walk you through them saves a lot of frustration.
ExpressionÂ
Clarinet has a wide range of styles, and lessons are shaped by what your child wants to play. As students advance, they explore dynamics, phrasing, and expression that bring personality to their sound.
