I've performed across three continents, from concert halls in Germany and Russia to stages across the U.S., singing everything from Vivaldi and Mozart to country, musical theatre, and contemporary church music. My clarinet background spans orchestras, jazz ensembles, and chamber groups. I also serve as assistant director for two choirs at my church, which keeps me connected to the community side of music that I love most.
What sets my teaching apart is my academic background. My Ph.D. focused on music theory, and my graduate training included the anatomy and physiology of the voice. That means when something isn't clicking for a student, I can explain what's happening physically, not just tell them to try again. I teach voice, clarinet, and saxophone.
Who I Work Best With
I work with students of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Whether you're picking up an instrument for the first time, preparing for an audition, or exploring music because it sounds fun, every lesson is tailored to where you are and where you want to go.
I've worked with plenty of shy and neurodivergent students who needed time to build confidence before they felt comfortable performing. Meeting students at their own pace is something I take seriously, and watching them grow into confident musicians is the best part of this job.
What to Expect
In our lessons, we'll work on the fundamentals that matter for your instrument. For voice students, that includes breath control, vocal health, and navigating your registers. For clarinet and saxophone students, we'll focus on breath support, embouchure, and tone production.
We'll also dig into the music you want to play. Broadway, classical, jazz, pop, video game soundtracks, whatever gets you excited. And because of my theory background, we won't just learn the notes on the page. You'll start to understand why the music works the way it does, which makes everything easier to learn and more fun to play.
A Little More About Me
I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Oregon, where my dissertation explored vocality and femininity in country music through the work of Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, and Lainey Wilson. I'm currently expanding it into a book. I've taught at the university level, spent years as a private instructor, and I'm currently teaching myself acoustic guitar, which keeps me connected to what it feels like to be a beginner.
