David Shorr, Maestro Music guitar teacher

Hi, I'm David!

David has been playing guitar for 25 years and teaching for about half of that time. His career has taken him from jazz clubs in Los Angeles to television sets and film productions, bringing real-world experience across a wide range of musical contexts to every lesson.

He studied Jazz Studies at Cal State University Northridge, where he had the opportunity to work with jazz luminaries, including Larry Koonse and Dr. John Daversa, which continues to shape his own teaching.

What to Expect

Guitar lessons with David are built around the student in front of him.

David's background in jazz gives his teaching unusual depth. During his interview process at Maestro Music, founder Noah (himself a professional guitarist) sat in on a trial lesson with David. He walked away so impressed that he signed up for lessons himself.

Lessons can cover anything from foundational technique and music theory to jazz harmony, improvisation, and genre exploration. David's lessons truly have something to offer everyone.

A Bit More About Me

David has performed with Postmodern Jukebox, appeared on television shows including The Comedians (with Billy Crystal and Josh Gad) and Jane the Virgin, and performed on camera in the 2019 film Deadwood. He has also recorded guitar for short films and video games, including work with acclaimed composer Austin Wintory.

Outside of screen work, David has spent years performing with jazz and other ensembles around Los Angeles.
